Privacy Policy

1. Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how the Network Monitor mobile application (the “App”) handles information when you install and use it on your iOS device (iPhone or iPad) or Android device. It applies only to the App and not to websites, services, or applications operated by third parties that you may reach through it.
2. What information the App processes
The App processes the following categories of information locally on your device. None of this is transmitted to us, and we do not operate any backend service that receives, stores, or analyses your data.
| Category | Examples | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Network metadata | Wi-Fi SSID/BSSID, signal strength, your device's IP address, MAC addresses of devices on your local network, vendor lookup (OUI) | Held in memory only while a scan is open; never sent off-device |
| Bluetooth metadata | BLE peripheral advertisements, device names, RSSI | Held in memory only while a scan is open; never sent off-device |
| Diagnostic results | Ping replies, traceroute hops, DNS records, open-port findings, router-vulnerability heuristics | Held in memory for the current session; not persisted |
| Speed-test history | Timestamp, server location, latency, download/upload Mbps | Stored on your device only, in app-private storage. Cleared when you uninstall the App or use the in-app clear option |
| Approximate & precise location | GPS coordinates, network-derived location | Read in-memory only as required by iOS and Android to read Wi-Fi network details (SSID/BSSID) and return scan results. Never persisted, never transmitted |
3. Why each piece of information is processed
- Network & Bluetooth metadata — to display the inventory of devices visible to your phone, which is the App's core function.
- Diagnostic results — to show you the output of network tools you explicitly run (ping, traceroute, DNS, open ports, router check, Wake-on-LAN).
- Speed-test history — so you can compare past runs and spot regressions over time.
- Location — both iOS and Android require apps to hold location permission before the operating system will reveal Wi-Fi network details or return Wi-Fi scan results. The App does not record, log, or transmit your location.
4. Third-party services
The App contacts the following third-party endpoint only when you start a speed test:
-
Cloudflare Speed Test (
speed.cloudflare.com) — used to measure your connection's latency, download throughput, and upload throughput. The App sends ordinary HTTPS requests; Cloudflare may log standard request metadata such as your IP address and User-Agent per its own Privacy Policy. We do not see, receive, or aggregate this data.
No advertising networks, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting tools, or third-party trackers are embedded in the App.
5. Storage and retention
All persisted data lives in the App's private sandbox on your device (the app container on
iOS, or typically under /data/data/com.networkmonitor.network_monitor/ on Android).
It is removed when:
- you clear the App's data (Android) or offload/delete the App (iOS), or
- you uninstall the App.
Speed-test history can also be cleared from inside the App.
6. App permissions
For the full list of permissions the App declares and why each one is needed, please see the dedicated Permissions page.
7. Children
The App is a general-audience network utility. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has somehow shared personal information with us, please contact us so we can verify there is nothing to delete.
8. Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data on a server, the rights granted under laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK GDPR, and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — including access, rectification, deletion, and portability — apply to data only if it exists. In the App's case there is no server-side personal data to access, correct, export, or delete. You can erase all data the App has stored on your phone at any time by clearing app data (Android), offloading or deleting the App (iOS), or uninstalling the App.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Substantive changes will also be highlighted in the App's release notes on the App Store and Google Play.
